Join Takeda as an Associate Scientific Director, GI Inflammation Drug Discovery Research where you will be a scientific leader with deep subject-matter expertise, driving project team progression and development of technical capabilities and be team leader within the Inflammation division of the GI Drug Discovery Unit (DDU). Helping build an industry-leading drug discovery pipeline for immune-mediated GI disease including celiac and celiac-related diseases, leading independent design and implementation of drug discovery pipeline programs. You will also Lead the evaluation and integration of external programs and academic collaborations into the pipeline, in line with established strategic focus areas. Contribute to multiple preclinical or clinical projects, acting as senior scientific consultant and /or project team leader. As part of the Drug Discovery group, you will report to the Senior Director, Celiac Discovery and work with the Celiac Discovery team.

How you will contribute: Provides scientific contributions which have significant impact on portfolio progress or development of technical capabilities, based on benchmarking to industry best-in-class
Contributes to development and implementation of scientific strategy, through tangible deliverables; challenges dogmas and internal 'blind spots'; actively pressure-tests ideas cross-functionally and via external network
Responsible for the validation, nomination and progression of drug discovery pipeline programs through direct project champion roles and management of junior staff
Responsible for the evaluation, establishment and integration of external programs from academic or BD collaborations into GI / Inflammation pipeline in line with established strategic focus areas.
Matrix with other parts of the Takeda organization including chemistry, DMPK, safety, translational, biomarker, and clinical development to advance pipeline programs
Provide significant input into department strategy including areas of scientific focus, partnerships, and collaborations
Participate in management of resourcing and budget planning for his/her pipeline programs
Contribute to the preparation/editing/review of documents for regulatory submission (i.e., study reports, IB's, IND's)
Establishes a strong external reputation, through scientific publication and presentation
Outstanding expertise and depth of knowledge in advancing drug discovery programs in immunology or immunology-adjacent fields.
Experience in celiac disease and/or immuno-oncology a plus
Keeps up with the up-to-date scientific advancement (e.g. competitive landscape, new technology, new research portfolio, and new partnership)
Play a leading scientific role on project team(s), setting high standards for rigor of thought and designs and directs research strategy and activities to meet program objectives; provides timelines and contingency plans
Independently manage workload and expectations and the workload of junior staff
Scientifically independent
Demonstrated excellence in guiding drug discovery teams to make data-driven, go/no-go decisions within established timelines
Scientific driver for research strategy that impacts group internally and outside area of function
Collaborates with other departments, and disciplines, acting as scientific authority within discipline
Determines methods on new assignments; makes strategic recommendations on projects
Identifies and initiates innovative programs that address untapped disease mechanisms and/or utilize novel therapeutic modalities
Work closely with translational and biomarker teams to identify novel translational and companion biomarker strategies
Utilize creative approaches to accelerate programs where applicable
Guides programs, teams and staff in heavily matrixed environment, incorporating diverse views and perspectives
May interface with other internal discovery/clinical stage programs, external discovery teams and/or academic collaborators to impact internal program deliverables.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 7+ years experience , or
MS with 13+ years experience, or
BS with 15+ years experience
5 years of -Pharmaceutical Industry experience
5 years of leadership/managerial experience
Requires approximately 15% travel
Some international travel may be required.
